marc my heart

Fashion month always feels official when Marc shows Monday night and then follows up with Marc by Marc on Tuesday…this season was no exception. We will get into Edie from last night in a future post; but for now let’s focus on today’s little presentation. While stalking twitter and instagram for behind-the-scenes I first saw the turbans. Then I saw the color palette. Then I thought…”I think this just might be a winner.” One of my favorites and I sent texts almost simultaneously….”MxM….!!!!!” That summed up how that conversation was going to go.

I blame this new found love for eclecticism and bohemianism on a few people…

And maybe a coast.

Well maybe. A little. Just a dash. I blame it on the California sisters. The 3 birds that actually style eclectic prints and layers of multiple levels and add turbans and other head accessories with a  great red lip and own it. I had west coast envy the whole time in Hawaii. My all-black ensembles just seemed..so…blah, so dark…so depressing. And then Marc presents these girls that are so like my west coast besties that I actually had a heart palpitation.  And let’s not even get started on the rug on the runway. Amazing stripe layout. How ’bout those stripes? Yeah, this one is a winner and I  might be am totally back in love.

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

my new crush

To say my eyes never tire of seeing his creations is an oath I plan to uphold. My style has changed over the last 2 years to be honest, and in those 2 years I have found the designers that speak to me seasons-after-season. It may have been the crossing into the 30′s and really knowing it is who you are and what you like; not what you think you should like. It’s not about chasing the latest trend…or wearing things you feel somewhat your best in…or even wearing things that really aren’t even you but seemed like a good idea for whatever reason at the time. Now, it’s about finding pieces that you really love, that really fit, mixing in high and low..(hello Zara) and wearing pieces that are really, well, YOU! Certain pieces you want because it speaks to you like an art piece, others because it impaled your heart the second you saw it. (Kate Moss wearing the dress for Louis Vuitton SP12 is that piece…) and others simply because you feel your best in them. My newest crush is Prabal Gurung. Sure, I always have had a soft spot for him…he’s up there with Som, Thakoon and Wu, but this collection was the push that led me into butterflies in my tummy, stars in my eyes and the desire to get dressed up with all of the emotions of style wrapped into one. It may have not been a love for the critics this season…but that’s the best part! Sometimes, it’s not the popular opinion that matters…it’s yours that’s the most important. And when it comes to you..who cares what the critics say!

I don’t know where I am wearing any of this…but those feathers sure will float nicely with a spring breeze!

Until tomorrow,

#nyfw…and fashion month too

It’s here kids! It’s here!!!! Spring 2013. While searching for pieces to grace my closet for the immediate season in front of us I came across this little number. A perfect notebook to add for all of what fashion month graces us with: sketches, fabrics, prints, quotes, details…it all fits. A black pebbled cover, the 4 best cities and it all fits in Céline. Now I just need to stop by the art store to get it’s perfectly matched pen. One could never use dull ink for this beauty.

Happy Fashion Month!!!!

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

oh susanna

It all started when Satine called me 13 months ago with a message simply stated….”Chloé!” This can only mean one thing….. My interest peaked…could it be regarding the coveted boot? “No, No, No, No….. they would never….or would they? The latter won! Lucky for me, they only had the red in a size 40 at the time. (and we know I do not wear red!) YES! I so do not need to be buying this boot….CPW friend came into play naturally…and now they are everywhere I go. In my dreams. In my sketches. In my magazines. In Barneys!!!!! It’s a rash that won’t let up. It’s becoming more irritated as the days go on, the harder to ignore, the more outfits in my head make this sensible. The closet speaks to me and says, “All those neutrals…All your skinny little black jeans….Please, let us play with Susanna!”

Totally works with daily aesthetic don’t you think? Questions to be asked before any shoe purchase go something like this:

1. Is this shoe walkable with Mr. Owl? (yes)

2. Is this shoe walkable with Mr. Owl when he sees a squirrel, cat or any other thing that moves? (yes, yes)

3. Is this shoe that can go from uptown to downtown and Paristown? (why it most certainly can!)

4. Is this a shoe that you will love forever and ever? (Obvi, I’ve only been dreaming of it!)

5. Is this a shoe that can be passed down to your future little miss in 100 years? (she will certainly rock them!)

6. Is this a shoe that outweighs the CPW theory on both accounts? (CPW beats any dollars spent!)

7. Is this shoe causing you to lose common sense and loss of reality thinking? (when is fashion for realists anyways?)

7. Do you take this shoe til’ death do you part? (I do! I do! I do!)

God help me next Thursday at Fashion Night Out.

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

island fever

Seldom, if ever, do I get excited about sand, surf, sun and the dreaded item of clothing known as a swimsuit. However, the tides have brought in a new found appreciation and dare I say….obsession into the world of swim and all of its offerings. I am pretty certain it has to do with the fact that one of my sisters is getting married in t-minus almost 6 days and I am lucky enough to be jet-setting to Maui with my other 2 sisters and the beau to celebrate in her wedded bliss. Good times ahead indeed! The new job is definitely helping with appreciation of all things color, print and pattern, island landscapes, sunbeams and sexy little things. What was scary is now so inspiring…that little maillot de bain.  I’ll be steering clear of any green salads this trip around and I am even going to venture out to paddle-board in my polka dot bikini.

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

Dedicated to my sister…. it’s taken awhile but I see a small sparkle of the diamond you always have seen in the sea.

the september issue

As I stood in the pouring rain yesterday, sans umbrella, teetering in 4″ heels,  stalking the magazine man as he unloaded the September Issue onto the shelf, this quote quickly came to mind. I took the very bottom one, a stack of eight…the crispest of the bunch, the most virgin, the one that had eye-test guaranteed fine print pages and a spine made of steel. I handed over the rare $5 and $1 that I had in my possession as my M&M’s waved sorrowfully goodbye. There she was in all her glory. The September Issue.

Anna Wintour, the Pope of the magazine, as Candy Pratts Price so gracefully reminded us in the best documentary known to man, has outdone herself on this one.* I gracefully read every word she scribed onto her page. I admired her praise for the editors, the stylists, the assistants….the visionaries of the magazine. It took me back 3 years ago when I camped out for the first installation of the documentary. The movie manager in Chelsea definitely thought I was a kook when I asked if I could have the movie poster when it was over. But there I sat, 9 total viewings, $99 hard earned dollars to listen and learn from the Anna Wintour“September is the Januray in fashion!” I still feel the excitement, the love and the giddiness every time the September Issue comes to press. And lots not even discuss the soothing, career confirming effect the DVD can do on an evening after a bad day at the office….Next day, back in the saddle!

This issue commemorates Vogue turning 120 this year. In celebration of the 120 amazing years and countless inspirations she has given us….The Voguettes compiled a carefully edited list of the 120 influential-makers under 45. It is truly inspiring and highlights true creative visionaries that make one really want to be the best. Norman Jean Roy outdid himself this time around. He shot the campaign and created a mini-movie that leaves you wanting a new documentary for this September Issue. I’ve watched it at least 489 times since Vogue released it. You can find it here.  Prepare yourself…it makes you fall in love with fashion and Vogue all over again. And to Grace Coddington, you make me love doing what I do so much more with you as a role model. Carrie Bradshaw was right; Vogue does feed you more….It gives you an energy boost and nutrient that I have yet to find in any super food.

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

*The cover choice will never be a win with me… one of the other 119 couldn’t be the front-runner? Arizona Muse perhaps?
