forget-me-not

Nothing cheers a gal up more than a fresh bouquet of flowers! So you can imagine my elation when florals started sprouting up on the runways the past couple of seasons. We all know prints and I are not a winning combo…. after a few blooming bouquets however my attitude may have softened. I blame it on Celine of course as Phoebe sent the most beautiful arrangement for my eyes to feast on. Grounded in navy with brights and neons, that pattern had me smiling me for weeks…and to this day I still blush every time I see it.

Then they started growing onto denim.

Now, we all know how I fancy printed denim. So long spots, hello petals. Monet’s garden, Maui seaside, perennials in May, peonies in spring; they all have me giddy! As Alice so beautifully put it with her conversation with the Daisy,

Daisy: What kind of garden do you come from?

Alice: Oh, I don’t come from any garden!

Daisy: Do you suppose she’s a wildflower?

And with that, I’m off to see what other flowers are growing for me to pick for tomorrow’s blushing bouquet.

the floral that started it all....

quite the muse!

and a printed top? it's two bouquets in one day!

my zara never disappoints!

as vogue reported...

anna always has fresh flowers on her desk....

COH delivered a spring breeze...

or navy for a day feeling blue...

Monet's gardens inspired many this season...

because wearing them is almost as good as receiving them...

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

obsession du jour

With 2012 upon us and a recent trip to a sunny Miami, there’s a few obsessions to be had. As I mentioned yesterday, the blog needs to be a top priority this year. I am thinking of new little ideas to keep the posts regular, my readers informed and of course along for the ride with me. So Tuesday’s are going to be a little column on what my little heart is festering on.

We all know my obsession with Céline….more like disorder, but we all have our issues. On our little outing to Bal Harbour, the only current store in the US, I knew my excitement would only build as we got closer. (anytime the flagship wants to open on Madison would be lovely.) I could feel its presence from the parking lot. No sale items. No crowds. Just me and my Céline’s. Phoebe Pinks, Philo Purples. Prints. Neons. Brights. Shoes. Leather jackets. Bags. More bags. Wallets. Cashmere sweaters. Washed Denim. It was all there for the taking. As I grazed from fixture to fixture, hand sweeping motions across the most luxurious of fabrics, my heart would swell. Every detail noted. Every detail loved. My shopping partner quickly reminded me of the spending freeze we were taking part of. I nodded with disagreement, but kept my end of the deal up. I fixated my eyes onto the sunglasses as a way to escape this depressing conversation. Well, we are in Miami folks and it was blinding sunny. This didn’t warrant approval to purchase.

And there I tried a pair on…. Two pairs. Three pairs. The whole display.*

Here’s the thing about Céline….classic, timeless, cost per wear is less important than compliment per wear.** Go figure, that the Audrey shade swept my heart. Breakfast at Tiffany’s? My ultimate favorite! So there we were…Audrey and I discussing just how fantastic these would be to conceal my stalking PR moves. And then…. my dream cloud vanished and I realized I wouldn’t be having these to shield my eyes from blinding price tags or fashion crimes until April 1…or when NYC opens. Ladurée macaroons and new sunnies for a grand opening? It’s only fitting.

one of my true great loves

the one and only audrey

a fantastic shade of blue

or in nude...lovely against black outfitting options

sunnies are a spies best friend

*accessories would be passed onto a future daughter, long life span potential

**future post regarding equation:

COST PER WEAR: $355/300 days (65 bad weather days) = $1.18 a day. less than a diet coke purchase.

COMPLIMENT PER WEAR: “I’m obsessed with (insert accessory or item of clothing here). They look simply amazing on you!” Well that’s simply priceless and can’t be measured. And with that, it’s a “Thank. you. very. much.” (Sorry Amex, but you just lost the argument) but more on that later.

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

style code of conduct

I blame it on the train rides in the morning….my eyes are blinded! Hence the new mode of transportation. I don’t really judge what one is wearing…it’s more of an opinion of lack of or substantial level of style in one’s life. Lately, I haven’t been seeing much. I know we all have a few off days…but dirty denim and ill-fitting tee-shirts? Flip Flops? (surfers and west coast lovers need not apply for shoe remark!) Make up application on the packed train? What are we in high school? And even then dress codes still are in effect. While we all don’t work at Vogue and wear pins everyday or wake at 5am just to play dress up, you aren’t only dressing for yourself, but others no? Forgive me if this sounds pretentious or mean…it’s just something I’ve taken notice to. (remember you’re dealing with the girl that back at the all girls catholic high school took “dress down days” and “dressed them up!”)

On the recent trip to Europe, I took great notice to the level of sophistication our fellow friends across the Atlantic take to dress. Men in suits and pop ties. Dress shoes? Pocket Squares? I was in heaven. Women in proper heels, (no clanking allowed!) Skinny denim with the perfect heel, the Marant tee tousled at the front, (see it can be done right and not look juvenile!) But what I noticed most was not the designer labels or Celine bags in tow…it was the confidence these men and women exuded. It got me thinking… the basis of any ones wardrobe is not what label is sewn in the back neck, but the confidence stitched into the person. If this exists, does it make a simple slub-tee and Topshop skinny appear to be the new fashion statement?

usual suspects yes...but note the shoe.skinny with a roll.tee.slouchy button up? all thought out.

skinny again with button up and killer heel....aloof to the chaos around her.

geraldine is a poster for french chic...simple styling but with killer confidence!

while we all love prada....this girl gave it her own script.

it's really not that difficult and look how happy she looks!

while celine is fantastic...we all too can rock this look!

a gent with an edge...love it!

men is suits make me swoon!

and how classic and audrey do we look while peddling?

the japanese and europeans give one reason enough to up the ante.

a onesize styled with love and personality.

structured jackets paired with printed fine wale cord and out the door.

simple product + je ne sais quoi attitude= divine style setter

and with that my spots and i are off.....

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

falling for fall

So last night, genius here was ill prepared for the weather change. A shift wool dress with flats was perfect for the morning, however for the bike stroll home, the brisk fall air with light drizzle, presented a chilly situation. My mind wandered freely over the Brooklyn Bridge. Stars and puffy clouds moving with wind. City lights behind and in front. Fur and skinnies, cables and mohairs, boots and scarves dancing in my head. Fall had arrived in a flash and I could have danced on my bike that second. (let’s not forget the perfect accessory…red vintage cruiser with the bell and vintage basket friends.)

As I revamped the armoire and closet late last night, sweaters moved forward and strappy silks moved back. Furs moved center and light weight trenches moved left. It was a game of chess for the fashion lover. But there were holes to be filled and items to be placed…the shopping list began. What would I need this season?

navajo. alexa. marant.

printed pants. wang tees. wool hats.

perfection. can i drive a bike in these?

do we need words for this look?

snake slouch pants? oh yes!

spots and baseball tees...

stitchy sweaters and colored skinnies!

a palette of neutrals.. standard!

the only sneaker that will grace my feet.

fur adorned around my neck with the boyfriend blazer!

stripes.cables.bobbles.plaits.neps.

the ultimate accessory...

for my chilly nights at home...

the total look.

and dreams that keep us going thru the seasons....

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

sneaky snakes

Oh dear readers….let me just vent as I throw back my Celines and sip my Diet Coke on how gutted I am that I am writing this to you from a location other than the cement of Lincoln Center. We are in the midst of the heavy hitters showing for NY fashion week and the styles on the street are getting clever. Our trusted bloggers and fashion bibles are keeping us mildly up-to-date..(a little behind if you asked me…) Point in case, why I need to be shooting street shots! Why only edit 12 when I know you probably have at least 389 good ones?

So what have we been feasting our eyes on this week? Snakes! Pythons! Scales! Neutrals! Bags! Jeggings! Scarves! Shall I continue? The recent trip to Europe proved this. Ahem, future post recapping that later this week.

ummm hello? simply g.e.n.i.u.s! snakes like brights to accessorize them too!

denim.snakes.boyfriend blazer? gangs all here!

sometimes they sneak right up on you....

prints and scales get along just fine...a lesson for the rest of us!

and one of the style leaders showing us how scales look slouchy!

watch your back! snakes and silks might kill the fashion lover.

the snakes like to keep things interesting...amazing shade of emerald!

i'll wear what she's wearing please! merci beaucoup!

all buttoned up and ready to go! very zara of you miss!

snakes on acid! the color? mermaids rejoice!

and the sneakiest snakes around? yep. those amazing frenchies!

Run out and buy some python. Let’s face it Chloe, Lanvin, Prada, Miu Miu, Zara, Topshop and the style scenesters already RSVP’d to the party and by their watch, you’re already late!

Until tommorow,

xoxo

closet wars

Yes, it was an awful Friday morning!

The dogs retreated to the back of the apartment. Emotion at an all-time breaking point. Summer wardrobes and I are on the divorce front. I tried to mix subtle fall layering pieces into the absurd weather appropriate knits…mild heat stroke was setting in! (this is all while standing in front of the air conditioner). The twill oversized jacket will not be seeing the streets of NYC anytime soon! Denim slouch-skinnies, basis of any daily outfit, stayed right where they belonged…on me! Spotted scarf wrapped neatly around the neck….noose or accessory at this point undecided.

I hate my closet this week.

There I stood in the pile that was so angrily tossed onto the floor. Defeated. Depressed. I have nothing to wear!

*voice inside my head..”Shocking really….I’m sure the folks uptown tend to disagree, as does your bank account!”

“Really need a shopping fix. Need to prioritize other things. Fall will be here soon and then all will be well.” voice of an addict?

Late for work now… Awesome!

Entire contents of closet and armoire to hang and de-fur when I get home…. Double Awesome.

And then when I did get to work…. (9:40…not acceptable) the daily search engines of my muses awaited. Triple Dose of Awesome! I sat there sipping my diet coke thinking…ugh I bet they are never on the brink of closet divorce.

Lucky gals!

my morning prayer these days....

pretty sure giovanna never has a fight....

fall dressing is so much easier...and fun!

pleats please and leather!

layers...it makes the day manageable!

skinny patchwork slouch and.....and a Marant woolen jacket!

spots, chanel and boyfriend shirt...i can work with this.

pleats with a fur? double please please!!

notice the ease of third piece layering systems...(celine helps too!)

fall knits just have something more to them....

perhaps fall foliage can inspire color in ones outfit?

or just add a tail to your outfit? genius!

as i said.....lucky gals!

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

the countdown….

I’m really over summer! Really over it. I haven’t been this over it since my countdown to move to NYC to attend fashion school. The excitement that is parallel with school supplies, new shoes and snow in the forecast. I’ve seen one too many bra straps with racerback tanks and dresses. Shorts that should not be that short…one is not Kate Moss. I’ve smelled one too many smells from rotting garbage on the sidewalks. I’m ready for the cool temps. The weather that requires skinnies styled with a leather jacket. A leather jacket adorned with a fur vest. A fur vest accessorized with a Celine bag in pony hair. In other words…a Fall Season. So here’s to waiting.wanting.wishing.

ahhhh here we go...Marant. Leather. Fur. Tights...gang's all here!

Wool. Spots. Stripes. Leather...check check check!

with every heartbeat

The place that captured my heart and started the greatest fashion love affair!

There’s no place like it:

The people.

The romance.

The style.

It’s a one-way street to fashion greatness. The city country, a constant runway to the elitist of fashion mavericks. A certain je ne sais quoi of dressing.

Pfft, this old tee? Please, I’ve had it for years. These printed pants? No big deal! My hair that looks like I’ve slept on it for days? Yep, pretty much, but somehow I still look editorial ready. This perfectly nipped in jacket? Oh, just borrowed from my boyfriend.

The jealousy! Simply stunning! Effortless! My palm was a constant resting spot for my jaw that continued to drop to the floor from fashion amazingness. Tis’ my country of style leaders. Tis’ my one true love.

Sure, the heavy hitters spawn the fashion dreamers palettes: Celine, Chanel, Bruno, Sandro, Iro and of course my role model, Marant. But it’s not necessary for these commanders of chic to dress your back….because a French gal, well style is in her DNA. It’s as simple as the cigarettes she flawlessly smokes with the same chicness of her tousled tees and perfectly cuffed skinnies. French Style…seldom replicated if you are not a national citizen.

It’s these cities, this country, that makes my heart beat faster, makes my Canon click a little quicker, makes my legs run a little faster to capture the shot. Multiple memory cards that need constant refills, imaginations that make me configure new looks, visits to Zara and the masions of my fearless leaders mentioned above to adorn my closet. It’s these feelings that confirm my love affair with one of the great loves of my life. One that makes me feel invinvible and inspired for the next move, next event, next season.….

France, Je t’aime!!

As I said, it's in their DNA!

A denim onezie, a baby and still fabulous!

Printed pants never looked so good..and a suede fringe bag? Heaven!

Style to the strum of my guitar!

.....A+ Style!

Linen tees. gauzy skirts, some K.Jacques...all set for St. Tropez!

The bag, the scarf, the colored skinny, the shoe.....J'adore!

The French spirit with her beau it tow!

The gang's all here. Celine, Marant.....

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

totes!

As of late, my bags are getting smaller, smaller and smaller! We have gone from the MJ Stella bag, YSL Muse and other such large totes that carry me from morning to end-of-the-world scenarios, to one is lucky to fit a credit card in the bag. However, saving EVERYTHING and stowing EVERYTHING in these life encasing bags have given my OCD a complex within itself.

One of the originals!

*Normal contents in survival bag: Vogue. (as if, I would be without) reciepts from 5 months of shopping. Expense reciepts. Bills to be paid with next paycheck. (depressing). iPad. iPhone. Checkbook. (who still writes these) cosmetic bag. 2 Chanel lips. 1 Chanel compact. 1 bottle of hand santitizer. 1 bottle of fresh water. (sometimes a Diet Coke) Supply bag of post its, business cards and 12 colorful Muji pens. (penning my own novel) A camera. (and not a small one) And sometimes when I take homework home, the MacBook.

After many days of my forearm bruising, bicep curls, YSL repair and endless bending of receipts and tattered magazine pages, I had enough. Out with Bags and in with clutch! Now, what I am dying to get my hands on? I will admit that when I first saw this, it was a dead-stop in my tracks at the airport…Yep, Celine. In the flesh! Does it fit an iPad? Upon testing…confirmed. Mood stabilizer? Frown turned upside down!Does it have my best interest at heart? When has France ever failed me?

Forever Friends!

Wait, hold the Barneys card. Think about this…do you need this? No, not really! Will it invest? Probably, but maybe you should sample something else, first….. to see if you even use it more than once….

Celine=French Style

I retreated. I set my mind on the bank account growing. I set my goals to not pulling the trigger too soon. I was growing up.

I went to American Apparel. Nothing a little paint can’t add for the time being. Until I really know I need another tote in the closet.

Good enough for now!

*Edited bag contents: Wallet with 1 credit card. ID. Lukcy owl charm from Mom. 1-$20. 1 Chanel lip. 1 Chanel Compact. iPad. (I joined all my mags in App form) iPhone. (calendar and notepad on hand at all times)

Until tomorrow,

xoxo
