my blue boyfriends

One can always tell what kind of style one posses by a quick glance into their closet and armoire. Denim, outerwear, sweaters and handbags take the cake for my collecting archives. Luckily, my first assistant gig in this little world called fashion was working for an All-American company where a moose is the icon and heritage is grounded in your design aesthetic. It’s pretty safe to assume with these highlights that denim will be the basis of any key look. I was fortunate enough to learn the tricks of the trade to create that perfect jean so it looked loved and worn as if it were from a coal mine back in the 50′s. (Rosebowl Flea Sunday’s….a highlight for digging through mass piles.) The more worn the better. The bluer, the more intoxicating. Hand-sanding, whisker marks, chemical sprays, tinting, bleaching, dremel playing, it was all in a days work! Not to date myself, but this was also when the skinny fit hit the states. Boots and Flares no more. It was all about the skinny…and still is for me, always will be. Take the inseam 1/8″ in. Shape the side seam forward. It will always be about the fit. I still obsess over the whole idea of denim and what it does for the overall look and feel. It’s the grounding in my everyday looks. Washes, fits, prints, colors and roll heights at the ankle bone only make me more obsessed. A recent conversation regarding just this happened in line at Starbucks. Styling looks with denim called for particular details. “Yes, the cuff must measure 1″ only. It MUST hit at the middle of the ankle bone. It can only be rolled one full-time, but can’t look perfect.” The guy next to me, “Are you serious?” That’s right friends, it’s always about the small details…because they make the big details!  My skinnies take me through day to-night. Bike rides and plane rides. Calendar meetings and dinner dates. Authentic washes and rainbow skinnies. Neons and Jackson Pollock inspired splatters. They just get me….and I fancy them quite a bit.

the missing link! perfect wash and fit.

the celine blues campaign...sign me up!

the perfect denim shirt...a requirement for every closet.

yes marant....she has my heart every season.

i want it all...in.my.closet.NOW!

who could have a bad day in these pieces?

the gals at current/elliot make my day something to look forward to with spots.

roll height is crucial. the french understand this.

sweaters and skinnies...the look that makes it easy everyday.

effortless and lived in blues.

denim head-to-toe? even better!

if you have alt, sorrenti and marant in the equation, denim will likey be an answer.

red skinnies...instant pep in your step!

quickly putting j.crew on the playground with the denim crew!

the simple details make all the details.

And with that, I’m off to fold my stacks like denim walls at Moose headquarters. Yes, that obsession has followed me through the years.

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

style code of conduct

I blame it on the train rides in the morning….my eyes are blinded! Hence the new mode of transportation. I don’t really judge what one is wearing…it’s more of an opinion of lack of or substantial level of style in one’s life. Lately, I haven’t been seeing much. I know we all have a few off days…but dirty denim and ill-fitting tee-shirts? Flip Flops? (surfers and west coast lovers need not apply for shoe remark!) Make up application on the packed train? What are we in high school? And even then dress codes still are in effect. While we all don’t work at Vogue and wear pins everyday or wake at 5am just to play dress up, you aren’t only dressing for yourself, but others no? Forgive me if this sounds pretentious or mean…it’s just something I’ve taken notice to. (remember you’re dealing with the girl that back at the all girls catholic high school took “dress down days” and “dressed them up!”)

On the recent trip to Europe, I took great notice to the level of sophistication our fellow friends across the Atlantic take to dress. Men in suits and pop ties. Dress shoes? Pocket Squares? I was in heaven. Women in proper heels, (no clanking allowed!) Skinny denim with the perfect heel, the Marant tee tousled at the front, (see it can be done right and not look juvenile!) But what I noticed most was not the designer labels or Celine bags in tow…it was the confidence these men and women exuded. It got me thinking… the basis of any ones wardrobe is not what label is sewn in the back neck, but the confidence stitched into the person. If this exists, does it make a simple slub-tee and Topshop skinny appear to be the new fashion statement?

usual suspects yes...but note the shoe.skinny with a roll.tee.slouchy button up? all thought out.

skinny again with button up and killer heel....aloof to the chaos around her.

geraldine is a poster for french chic...simple styling but with killer confidence!

while we all love prada....this girl gave it her own script.

it's really not that difficult and look how happy she looks!

while celine is fantastic...we all too can rock this look!

a gent with an edge...love it!

men is suits make me swoon!

and how classic and audrey do we look while peddling?

the japanese and europeans give one reason enough to up the ante.

a onesize styled with love and personality.

structured jackets paired with printed fine wale cord and out the door.

simple product + je ne sais quoi attitude= divine style setter

and with that my spots and i are off.....

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

spots

Alright friends….it’s 96 degrees and climbing. The humidity…dripping. The sun….piercing. But, what am I thinking of? That’s right…..FALL! FALL! FALL! HOLIDAY! WINTER! SNOW! FUR! SKINNIES! Work may be the culprit as the time has come for the best part of my job…Fall and Holiday Concepting. (when was shopping and designing for summer fun anyways? A swimsuit? Shorts? NEVER!)  So how fitting was it when I spotted (no pun intended) these lovely little skinnies waiting to be snapped up by yours truly.

My girls at Current/Elliot made them just for me. Who doesn’t love a good spot? The denim savior of Gap even stitched up a pair for the 1969 store, my hero…that Rosella! We naturally offered our own version for our mini-me’s here at Le GapKids. Every “little” friend needs the cool cats version don’t you think?

Here’s to all things fall….holiday…spots….furs….fashion!

spotted...my inspiration!
