Can we please have a moment of silence? Words cannot express my elation that the last of the summer days are behind us and fall is upon us! Fashion Week starts this week, Fashion Night Out this Thursday, apple cider, tomato soup, football has kicked off and kids are heading back to school. I couldn’t be happier!!!!!! Move over bikinis and denim shorts; hello cashmere and feather frocks! Better luck next year summer!

Until tomorrow,

wear now?

It’s storming in NYC at the moment. And at the moment, I’m pre-listing what I want to wear in the next few days. Let’s just say it doesn’t involve open toe sandals. Nor, anything to do with color or yachty inspired prints or stripes Yeah, yeah, yeah nothing new there….. No, it doesn’t involve shorts and it most definitely does not even closely touch the swim category. My mind is where it always is….in the fall clouds. Heavy wools, cashmere and furs. New Marant sneakers, slouchy boots and 8ft cashmere hand-knitted scarves to cocoon my neck. I’ve actually mastered the wax-jegging in this heat. Mind you, it was totally an episode out of FRIENDS with Ross stuck in the bathroom trying to get out of his skinny leather pants. It wasn’t that dramatic I assure you, but it sure did pose some problems. 98 and humid…do not wear skinny little black pants, you moron. While the storm breaks the heat, I’m going to continue to break my lil’ piggy bank. And I still have to find a dress for the wedding in Maui. Serious fashion issues.

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

P.S. Can we just talk about the Kate Moss situation for Rag & Bone? Next post.

P.S.S. How do I get on the pre-list for that goat gilet?

P.S.S. How many lunches do I need to skip to save for that goat gilet? C.P.W scenario…next, next post.

the muses

Brace yourselves…the spring campaign was released today for the muse of my world…Isabel Marant. But wait, it gets better! It features my other muse of the world…the one and only, Arizona. Talk about a double whammy of fashion intoxication. The campaign is full of color, sun, the looks of a vintage Chevy cruising down the sun-kissed avenues while Arizona soaks it all in. Aside from wanting everything and I mean everything from the spring collection, we all know that this is not a realistic option. If I had to pick and choose, the jacket, the pants and of course some sneakers to relieve my feet from the torture of the heels on a bike.* Let’s also not forget that anything printed in the pantalons department has me skipping down the sidewalks these days. Inez + Vindooh shot the masterpiece and need to add this one to their list of greats.

i died and went to heaven after this...

a sunny day in california....

And how about my other favorite? The Arizona! Rumor has it she lives in my neighborhood….aside from geographical influence, can we just talk about the other ones?  I loved her sporting the J.Crew campaign a few months back. If she can pull off a preppy look, there might be hope for me. Small steps kids. Or how about the Saturday after the two weeks from hell when I whipped out the Self Service magazine and told Peter, “Cut it all off. All of it! I want it choppy. I want the Arizona!” And there went 8 1/2″ inches to the floor. It was liberating.

the muse....

So there it is friends, two of the muses that keep me going. They make you feel young, independent, pretty…and stylish all at the same time. While some fancy an evening gown, Isabel shows us that looking her French fantastical looks just as glam in a tye-dye embellished jacket. My little paws are going to be all over that little number! Again, cost per wear, compliment per wear, it’s all going to be very economical with a quick dinner outing and a Sunday stroll to the vegetable stand at Whole Foods.

And with that, I am off to crack open the piggy bank and call my sources for that jacket.

*bike riding saves money…and it trims your waist to be able to fit a la Marant.

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

my blue boyfriends

One can always tell what kind of style one posses by a quick glance into their closet and armoire. Denim, outerwear, sweaters and handbags take the cake for my collecting archives. Luckily, my first assistant gig in this little world called fashion was working for an All-American company where a moose is the icon and heritage is grounded in your design aesthetic. It’s pretty safe to assume with these highlights that denim will be the basis of any key look. I was fortunate enough to learn the tricks of the trade to create that perfect jean so it looked loved and worn as if it were from a coal mine back in the 50′s. (Rosebowl Flea Sunday’s….a highlight for digging through mass piles.) The more worn the better. The bluer, the more intoxicating. Hand-sanding, whisker marks, chemical sprays, tinting, bleaching, dremel playing, it was all in a days work! Not to date myself, but this was also when the skinny fit hit the states. Boots and Flares no more. It was all about the skinny…and still is for me, always will be. Take the inseam 1/8″ in. Shape the side seam forward. It will always be about the fit. I still obsess over the whole idea of denim and what it does for the overall look and feel. It’s the grounding in my everyday looks. Washes, fits, prints, colors and roll heights at the ankle bone only make me more obsessed. A recent conversation regarding just this happened in line at Starbucks. Styling looks with denim called for particular details. “Yes, the cuff must measure 1″ only. It MUST hit at the middle of the ankle bone. It can only be rolled one full-time, but can’t look perfect.” The guy next to me, “Are you serious?” That’s right friends, it’s always about the small details…because they make the big details!  My skinnies take me through day to-night. Bike rides and plane rides. Calendar meetings and dinner dates. Authentic washes and rainbow skinnies. Neons and Jackson Pollock inspired splatters. They just get me….and I fancy them quite a bit.

the missing link! perfect wash and fit.

the celine blues campaign...sign me up!

the perfect denim shirt...a requirement for every closet.

yes marant....she has my heart every season.

i want it all...in.my.closet.NOW!

who could have a bad day in these pieces?

the gals at current/elliot make my day something to look forward to with spots.

roll height is crucial. the french understand this.

sweaters and skinnies...the look that makes it easy everyday.

effortless and lived in blues.

denim head-to-toe? even better!

if you have alt, sorrenti and marant in the equation, denim will likey be an answer.

red skinnies...instant pep in your step!

quickly putting j.crew on the playground with the denim crew!

the simple details make all the details.

And with that, I’m off to fold my stacks like denim walls at Moose headquarters. Yes, that obsession has followed me through the years.

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

white carousel

“They” say it might snow this weekend. “They” are also the people that put NYC under a panic attack with hurricane Irene that made as much noise as a summer rain-shower. However, the idea of flurries or anything as peaceful as icy confetti fluttering above you got me thinking of all things white. It didn’t help walking into Anthropologie on 5th Ave. earlier this week either. Christmas windows set. Yarn trees. Snow kissed owls. My heart was bursting with excitement.

Naturally my wardrobe consists of 4 vibrant colors: camel.black.white.heather grey. Add denim and you have the fab 5. Add anything else and my skin begins to crawl and the skin will match that “blaring shade of red” in mohair. Isn’t it amazing how the brain sub-consciously works? All my whites are too summer optic. I need warmer tones; french vanillas and snow cap whites. Hand-knit sweaters and garter stitch hats. Multi-use gloves for texting and photo-taking. Natural furs and warm pleated silks. Suede jeggings. Isabel Marant anything this season. Textured sweaters. Feathers and fringe. But what really has me obsessing over the candy coated whites…..the presentation what Marc Jacobs did for Vuitton Spring 2013. A carousel of creativity! Magical horses. Dimensional fabrics. Perhaps that’s where this winter white kick has erupted.

where i reside thinking of these things.....

before swan lake...

tim walker=true love

forever changed a runway presentation...

wedding dress for dinner.

feathers make everything fun!

add a toss of black and voila....

essential everyday styling: white fur, black groundings.

proportion and blocking.... noir et blanc

color palette complete!

gracing us in pleats!

the entire fascination in one look!

marant knows what we like.

textures.fringe.suede.the whole collection had me sighing.

McQueen.........no words.

the collection that changed everything for me....

marc knows magical details.

white confetti falling from above...

the palette of fairytales.

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

style code of conduct

I blame it on the train rides in the morning….my eyes are blinded! Hence the new mode of transportation. I don’t really judge what one is wearing…it’s more of an opinion of lack of or substantial level of style in one’s life. Lately, I haven’t been seeing much. I know we all have a few off days…but dirty denim and ill-fitting tee-shirts? Flip Flops? (surfers and west coast lovers need not apply for shoe remark!) Make up application on the packed train? What are we in high school? And even then dress codes still are in effect. While we all don’t work at Vogue and wear pins everyday or wake at 5am just to play dress up, you aren’t only dressing for yourself, but others no? Forgive me if this sounds pretentious or mean…it’s just something I’ve taken notice to. (remember you’re dealing with the girl that back at the all girls catholic high school took “dress down days” and “dressed them up!”)

On the recent trip to Europe, I took great notice to the level of sophistication our fellow friends across the Atlantic take to dress. Men in suits and pop ties. Dress shoes? Pocket Squares? I was in heaven. Women in proper heels, (no clanking allowed!) Skinny denim with the perfect heel, the Marant tee tousled at the front, (see it can be done right and not look juvenile!) But what I noticed most was not the designer labels or Celine bags in tow…it was the confidence these men and women exuded. It got me thinking… the basis of any ones wardrobe is not what label is sewn in the back neck, but the confidence stitched into the person. If this exists, does it make a simple slub-tee and Topshop skinny appear to be the new fashion statement?

usual suspects yes...but note the shoe.skinny with a roll.tee.slouchy button up? all thought out.

skinny again with button up and killer heel....aloof to the chaos around her.

geraldine is a poster for french chic...simple styling but with killer confidence!

while we all love prada....this girl gave it her own script.

it's really not that difficult and look how happy she looks!

while celine is fantastic...we all too can rock this look!

a gent with an edge...love it!

men is suits make me swoon!

and how classic and audrey do we look while peddling?

the japanese and europeans give one reason enough to up the ante.

a onesize styled with love and personality.

structured jackets paired with printed fine wale cord and out the door.

simple product + je ne sais quoi attitude= divine style setter

and with that my spots and i are off.....

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

the downtown girls god

The annoyance of American fashion magazines and the lack of creative editorials…(future post) seem to be hitting me over the head with the September Issues stocking up at my desk. The geniuses across the pond continue to deliver the thought-provoking, mood-enhancing, spiritual relationship with fashion across their pages. Styling that makes you rip the pages out and grab the 401K account for emergency funding! While I don’t partake in the rip, cut, slash, mark or any other form of abuse to my Bibles, others may and I silently pray to the fashion God to pardon their sins. “Excuse me, is that Paris Vogue, where are your white gloves? PUT THE MAGAZINE DOWN IMMEDIATELY!”

You can imagine my excitement when my eyes burst out of my head at the Espana edition of Vogue with the below editorial pages facing upward! Here we have it….Isabel Marant in the flesh! Looks so Marant you never could mistake her signature for stylist interpretations. It was simply heaven. While we know she is my Sensei in the world of fashion…she also is the Santa Clause of shopping for me.

Enjoy kids!

funny how vogue and i share the same thoughts as of late?

let's pretend i am standing next to issie...and that all the clothes fit nicely in my closet!

and here we have the perfect tee....and the jacket? mild stroke!

red with envy!

sunny days in cali!

one of the main reasons i do what i do everyday.....

thanks isabel...you make us girls uber happy!

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

closet wars

Yes, it was an awful Friday morning!

The dogs retreated to the back of the apartment. Emotion at an all-time breaking point. Summer wardrobes and I are on the divorce front. I tried to mix subtle fall layering pieces into the absurd weather appropriate knits…mild heat stroke was setting in! (this is all while standing in front of the air conditioner). The twill oversized jacket will not be seeing the streets of NYC anytime soon! Denim slouch-skinnies, basis of any daily outfit, stayed right where they belonged…on me! Spotted scarf wrapped neatly around the neck….noose or accessory at this point undecided.

I hate my closet this week.

There I stood in the pile that was so angrily tossed onto the floor. Defeated. Depressed. I have nothing to wear!

*voice inside my head..”Shocking really….I’m sure the folks uptown tend to disagree, as does your bank account!”

“Really need a shopping fix. Need to prioritize other things. Fall will be here soon and then all will be well.” voice of an addict?

Late for work now… Awesome!

Entire contents of closet and armoire to hang and de-fur when I get home…. Double Awesome.

And then when I did get to work…. (9:40…not acceptable) the daily search engines of my muses awaited. Triple Dose of Awesome! I sat there sipping my diet coke thinking…ugh I bet they are never on the brink of closet divorce.

Lucky gals!

my morning prayer these days....

pretty sure giovanna never has a fight....

fall dressing is so much easier...and fun!

pleats please and leather!

layers...it makes the day manageable!

skinny patchwork slouch and.....and a Marant woolen jacket!

spots, chanel and boyfriend shirt...i can work with this.

pleats with a fur? double please please!!

notice the ease of third piece layering systems...(celine helps too!)

fall knits just have something more to them....

perhaps fall foliage can inspire color in ones outfit?

or just add a tail to your outfit? genius!

as i said.....lucky gals!

Until tomorrow,

xoxo

the countdown….

I’m really over summer! Really over it. I haven’t been this over it since my countdown to move to NYC to attend fashion school. The excitement that is parallel with school supplies, new shoes and snow in the forecast. I’ve seen one too many bra straps with racerback tanks and dresses. Shorts that should not be that short…one is not Kate Moss. I’ve smelled one too many smells from rotting garbage on the sidewalks. I’m ready for the cool temps. The weather that requires skinnies styled with a leather jacket. A leather jacket adorned with a fur vest. A fur vest accessorized with a Celine bag in pony hair. In other words…a Fall Season. So here’s to waiting.wanting.wishing.
